Project
The Mill Fork Crossroads

Nomination
Best Student’s Project of Public Space

About the Project
There used to be a flour manufacture with watermills at Malaya Proletarskaya Street, and after a serious fire, a firewater pond was built here.

The dominants in our project are a water pond and a water wheel that both feature the Sun. Such water wheels were used at watermills. The red color refers to Petrov-Vodkin’s red steed. We took inspiration in Tschumi’s installation located at Parc de la Villette. Our “planets” – mill stones found at the site – orbit along multiple trajectories lined up with paving stones. Patterns at the crossroads are radially extending from the water reservoir, featuring orbits of planets, as well as water ripples. Local highlights ensure functional zoning: the hostel entrance, the park and the recreation space.
