Minerva Villa is situated above Punta Campanella, a promontory that opens up a continuous panorama extending from the Bay of Ieranto to the island of Capri and the shores of the Gulf of Naples. Built in the thirteenth century, the Minerva Tower has accommodated various functions throughout its history, embodying layers of the region’s military, mythological, and architectural heritage. Today, it stands as a historic landmark within the broader landscape of the peninsula.
The project proposes a villa for an artist, conceived as two primary components: the historic Minerva Tower, reinterpreted as an exhibition space for displaying artworks in direct dialogue with its historic fabric and exceptional sea view; and a new extension containing the residential and studio spaces required for the artist’s everyday life and work. The design strategy seeks to preserve the tower as the historical heart of the project, placing its architectural character and surviving traces of the past at the cente.
