Mirabello Five

Mirabello Five is conceived as a dialogue between conservation and contemporary intervention. The restoration focuses on recovering the original architectural shell, from the historic Venetian terrazzo and herringbone parquet floors to the ceilings, preserving the material identity and proportions of the existing spaces.

Within this restored classical framework, a system of curtains introduces a new spatial layer, creating contemporary rooms within the larger historic rooms. The curtains can assume different plan configurations, continuously redefining the size, relationships and functions of the spaces.

The project thus brings together two seemingly opposing principles: the conservation and legibility of the historic structure, and a lightweight, reversible and highly flexible contemporary intervention, capable of overcoming the rigidity of the original classical layout without altering it.
