The Mistress of the Inn

The large-scale production of The Mistress of the Inn (La Locandiera) was staged based on Carlo Goldoni's play at the Donetsk State Academic Musical and Dramatic Theater named after M.M. Brovun. The visual and scenographic concept of the performance was inspired by one of Florence's most recognizable landmarks: the Ponte Vecchio. It is beneath the arches of such a structure that Mirandolina’s cozy inn is located, a place where passions run high and destinies are shaped. The hotel rooms are situated directly within the structural load-bearing elements of the bridge.

Through its perspective treatment, the set design visually enlarges the stage, adding depth and a sense of airiness. Furthermore, the color, tonal, and architectural solutions of the set echo the auditorium, creating a complete sensation of the theater's architecture extending deep into the stage. This produces the illusion of a unified design concept that transcends the boundaries of the stage box, turning the entire auditorium into an integral part of the performance space.
