The Monument to the Unknown Martyrs in Shoghab Park, Bushehr, Iran, is conceived as a contemplative journey from the material world towards spiritual awareness. Its two outer shells create an inviting passage where visitors encounter the names of the martyrs of Bushehr Province before entering a central space for reflection.
The outer shell represents a curtain drawn aside in the search for truth, while the interior light directs the gaze upwards, expressing spiritual ascension, tranquillity, and remembrance. Locally sourced coral stone connects the monument to Bushehr’s identity and symbolises resilience, endurance, and rootedness. Recycled steel sheets are used for the platform balustrade to reduce construction costs and environmental impact while conveying strength and durability. Inclusive access is provided through a gently sloping ramp aligned with the park’s existing pedestrian network, ensuring convenient access for all visitors, particularly people with disabilities and injure
