The Church of the Transfiguration of the Savior on Nereditsa Hill was erected in 1198. Its monumental fresco cycle, preserved almost in its original state until 1941, was widely considered one of the defining masterpieces of medieval Russian art.
The multimedia exhibition "Nereditsa. Return of Light" traces the history of the church from its creation through its destruction by Nazi forces to its post-war rebirth. Visitors experience the most dramatic chapters of the landmark's history, culminating in a near-complete visual reconstruction of the fresco program projected directly onto the interior walls. This iconography was painstakingly restored using 1904 watercolor studies by artist Leonid Brailovsky, with Sber AI technologies synthesizing historical archives to reconstruct the lost imagery and generate the audiovisual narrative.
Achieving a delicate balance between technology and heritage, the complex hardware remains virtually invisible within the sacred space, preserving the spatial integrity of the historic interior.

Among Russia's cultural institutions, the Novgorod State Museum-Reserve holds a place of distinction. Over its more than 160-year history, the museum has expanded continuously—opening new venues and restoring architectural monuments once considered lost forever. Among these restorations are the iconic monumental fresco cycles of Novgorod’s historic churches: the Church of the Annunciation on Gorodishche, the Church of the Transfiguration on Nereditsa Hill, the Church of the Dormition on Volotovo Field, and the Church of the Transfiguration on Ilina Street featuring the masterworks of Theophanes the Greek. Today, the museum-reserve welcomes over 1.7 million visitors annually across its historic sites.
