The project for the restoration and adaptation of the house on Sergievskaya Street has become an example of a comprehensive approach to the preservation of an object of cultural heritage. At the moment the works began the building was considered hopeless, had been vacated and was in a difficult condition requiring the restoration of its historic appearance and the search for a new scenario of use.
Comprehensive scholarly research made it possible to identify the most valuable elements of the building and to develop solutions for their preservation. Within the framework of the project the historic façades were restored, authentic elements of the monument were preserved and restored, the volumetric-spatial structure of the house was retained, and the interior premises were adapted to contemporary requirements. Today the object has received a new function — the boutique hotel “Muratov House” has opened in the former residential building. Thanks to the synthesis of the historic context and contemporary design the building has once again become part of active urban life while preserving its architectural identity, atmosphere and connection with the history of Nizhny Novgorod.
