Project
New Taipei City Museum of Art
Nomination
Best Architectural Design for a Museum
About the project
The New Taipei Museum of Art is located along the river valley, in a historical town of pottery art. To blend in with the landscape and local cultural imagery, the design intends to create an “Art Museum among the Reeds”.
The ground level is a network of open art streets filled with workshops, cafés, and sculpture terraces, taking a form reminiscent of riverbed. The main building mass is elevated over the site by a long-span structural system to provide the most flexible exhibition space. Grand stairs lead to the entrance hall on the 2nd floor, and connect the four major exhibition areas. The garden restaurant on the roof has a great view to the scenery. Children’s art gallery, 500-seat multipurpose hall, collection library, and management center are arranged on B1-B3 levels.
The façade is composed of numerous structural and non-structural vertical tubes. It echoes with the blurry and serenity image of the swaying reeds, presenting a formless expression of the visual illusions.
