About the project
In 2021, three mosaic timpans were made for the church that is part of the Resurrection Novo-Devichy Convent, namely The Harrowing of Hell on the western wall, The Madonna’s Protecting Veil on the northern wall, and The Appearance of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God on the southern wall.
The key objective was to make the mosaics fit harmoniously into the existing color environment of the church.
The style of the mosaics is Palaiologan Renaissance, the final period in the development of Byzantine art. The materials used were smalt and natural stone.
