Project:
Smolensk. Outdoor public space in a fortress
Category:
Best Design of Public Space by Student
About the project (provided by the applicant):
The project envisions an outdoor public space along the longest segment of the 17th-century Smolensk fortress wall, designed to cater to the needs and interests of both local residents and tourists. The space offers flexibility, accommodating both summer and winter activities. The key attractions and pedestrian routes are strategically placed, considering the existing tree clusters, optimal viewpoints, and terrain features.
The design is also influenced by the local urban context, which incorporates surrounding buildings, and existing transportation and pedestrian routes. The project draws inspiration from the cultural heritage of the Smolensk region, celebrating both its folk crafts and the contributions of notable individuals connected to the city.
