About the project (provided by the applicant)
The architectural appearance of the Museum Complex was shaped in the spirit of contextualism, incorporating the rhythm, scale, and imagery of the structures of the nearby Spaso-Preobrazhensky Monastery.
A historical study of this site and the surrounding area of the city's historical center revealed that, according to a 17th-century plan of Yaroslavl, fortifications of the «Earthen Town» were installed along the Kotorosl Embankment. These fortifications connected the defenses of the Spaso-Preobrazhensky Monastery and the «Log-Town» (now known as Strelka). These structures consisted of fortress walls with towers.
As a result of studying these historical defensive structures, the decision was made to take the fortress wall as the conceptual basis for the project's volumetric and spatial composition. At the same time, modern architectural references related to museum complexes helped transform this concept into a contemporary space.
