Preservation of the Chapel of St. George the Victorious and St. John the Baptist

The chapel is a cultural heritage site. It was built in 1779 and has retained its rare wedge-shaped gable, characteristic of 18th-century monuments. By 1972, water leaks had caused the lower log courses to deteriorate. By 2017, only half of the log structure remained. Emergency stabilization works began that year.

The uniqueness and importance of preserving this monument lie in several factors. Only a few similar structures have survived to the present day. It is a rare chapel with a wedge-shaped, pointed roof, and it also features mica windows, traces of mica from which were discovered during the survey.

The preserved chapel remains in its historic location. The monument is open to everyone, and visitors can enter and find a quiet place for prayer.

The story of the chapel’s rescue became an important precedent: the works were initiated by the public, with funding raised through private donations from concerned individuals.
