Project:
Priozersk — heart of Western Ladoga Lakeside
Category:
Best Project of Public Space by Student
About the project (provided by the applicant):
Tourist infrastructure development is essential for Russia’s economic growth. It also applies to interregional tourist areas like Ladoga lakeside. Since 2020, tourist flows have immensely increased in the Leningrad Region, and the existing amenities can’t manage them. This results in a negative impact on the environment, especially in Karelia.
The author suggests building a major tourist center in Priozersk which has always been an important part of the Western Ladoga Lakeside. There will a part with four sectors telling about different historic periods of the city’s life — a Novgorod stronghold, a Swedish citadel, a Russian city dating back to the 19th century, and an industrial hub. Moreover, the project includes a beautification concept for the embankment that connects Korela Fortress and Ladoga lakeside.
