The former palace of Count K. G. Razumovsky on the Moika River embankment is a historic building that today forms part of the complex of the Herzen State Pedagogical University of Russia.
The main task of the project was the careful revelation of the architectural plasticity of the building in the evening hours. Light does not alter the architectural image of the palace, but emphasizes it — highlighting the colonnade, window openings, stucco décor, cornices, and horizontal articulations of the façade.
A warm lighting palette forms an integral image of the historic building, underscoring the nobility of the light-coloured façade and its decorative elements. Varying intensity of illumination makes it possible to create a lighting hierarchy: the principal architectural elements become visual accents, while secondary details remain part of the overall lighting ensemble. Thus, the façade is perceived not as a uniformly illuminated surface, but as a three-dimensional architectural composition that unfolds in space through light.
