Restoration of the Chinese Hall in the Zubov Wing of the Catherine Palace

The Tsarskoye Selo State Museum-Reserve has completed the restoration of one of the interior gems of the Catherine Palace—the Chinese Hall in the Zubov Wing. Its revival marks the final stage of the large-scale restoration project "Catherine II. Personal Space," implemented since 2019 with the support of Gazprom PJSC.

The historic decoration of the Chinese Hall was lost during the Great Patriotic War. The key phase of the restoration was the recreation of 155 lacquer panels covering a total area of about 170 m². The project’s execution was made possible through the painstaking work of St. Petersburg restorers from the Leningrad School alongside master artisans from China, who spent two years restoring the panels using traditional techniques. Additionally, painted bronzed and porcelain chandeliers in the Chinoiserie style were recreated for the interior. On June 4, 2026, following the completion of work in the Chinese Hall, the Zubov Wing reopened to visitors in all its grandeur.
