Project:
Rizhskaya metro station
Category:
Best Implemented Interior Design Project for Public Space
About the project (provided by the applicant):
The new station serves as a transfer hub for the Kaluzhsko-Rizhskaya line and passengers arriving at the Rizhsky railway station. The interior design is centered around the image of an arch or gate, a symbolic nod to the area's historical significance. In the olden days, the gates to Moscow were located near the modern-day Rizhsky railway station, marking the city's entrance. This historical continuity is reflected in the 16 stainless steel arches, each up to 4 meters high, that adorn the station's vestibule and platform. Arranged sequentially, the arches form a gallery-like effect.
To enhance functionality, the station features lighting that alerts passengers wearing headphones when a train is approaching. The station is finished with classic granite, while the track walls retain their original design, visually linking Rizhskaya with other stations on the Big Circle Line.
