About the project Luxury and poverty here come hand in hand. An enormous throne symbolizing the state is torn apart. Two highlights of the performance are palatial gilded chandeliers and hay, representing the royal posh and peasant misery.
Hay represents sea, manure, and all the dirt and penury of the peasant world. On the other hand, chandeliers take us to the palace. Moreover, they are many other things: woods with will o’ the wisps, a bell at the Bolotnaya Square calling people to Pugachyov’s execution, an Italian gondola and the ship taking Elizabeth to the Russian shores.
