Project
Shchukin. Biography of Collection

Nomination
Best Implemented Project of Temporary or Permanent Museum Exposition

About the project
The exhibition is divided into two parts: the collection of Sergei Shchukin and those of his four brothers. The main idea was to present the works as if they still were in the Shchukins' houses. Peter's hall is crammed with display cases, as is the museum in his mansion. Dmitry's hall is divided into two rooms. Ivan's hall is hung with mourning drapes referring to his tragic end. The architecture of Sergei's rooms gradually falls apart, becoming a ruin in the Picasso hall. The Derain hall – the last one – is only “adorned” with light. The façade and the main staircase are draped with chintz from the Shchukins factories, the source of the family's wealth.
