The Platform-1 Research Center in the Kara Sea

The scientific center's program focuses on studying climate change, monitoring the unique ecosystem along the Northern Sea Route, and supporting LNG production (Yamal LNG). The architectural concept references the image of a bridge—a bridge between nature and science, the elements and humanity. The building's design itself evokes a bridge segment supported by two piers.

The trapezoidal piers house apartments for scientists and specialists, while the main platform accommodates laboratories, offices, lecture halls, a conference hall, a dining area, a gym, an accessible open rooftop, and a helipad. Technical and utility spaces are distributed across the technical floors of both the piers and the platform. The facility can be accessed by helicopter or ship, with mobile platforms and concealed hatches provided for vessel docking.
