St. Nicholas Church in the village of Storozhno is a monument of Russian Northern stone architecture dating back to the late 16th century (1595) and a cultural heritage site of federal significance. Historically, it formed part of the Kiprian-Storozhensky Monastery, founded according to legend by the repented brigand chief Kiprian on the site of a former pirate den along Lake Ladoga.
The two-story church, built from large cobblestone masonry, is characterized by its austere monumentality and fortress-like appearance: thick walls, asymmetrical windows, and a succinct, unadorned composition shape its ascetic aesthetic. The upper floor houses the main altar dedicated to St. Nicholas the Wonderworker alongside a side chapel dedicated to the Epiphany, while the lower floor is dedicated to the Dormition of the Mother of God.
Closed during the 1930s, the church's revival project was designed in 2021, with full restoration completed in 2026 under the supervision of the Committee for Cultural Heritage Preservation of the Leningrad Region. The restoration encompassed the facades, interior spaces, domes, crosses, roofing, and the southern porch in line with 16th–17th century aesthetics. Accommodating its active status, the project successfully adapted the historic structure for contemporary liturgical use.
