Project
Tahrir Cafeteria at the American University

Nomination
Best Implemented Restoration / Reconstruction Project

About the project
Renovation of the American University in Cairo's campus' main cafeteria in Downtown Cairo, a rich area of the capital, was a fast track project. The design incorporated a transformation of the existing cafeteria into a modern, vibrant and fresh space that mixes between past and present through materials, ceiling exposure of already existing building structure, modern built arcades, local patterned tiling and warm use of materials such as wood. The cafeteria is open for everyone using the campus that has now become a cultural center.
