The Nucleus is an architectural and environmental project addressing Iraq’s solid waste crisis, particularly in Baghdad. It transforms waste from an environmental burden into energy, reusable resources, and economic opportunity.

Located in Rusafa, Baghdad, within Al-Zawraa District along the Old Baqubah Road, the project benefits from its proximity to waste-disposal areas and major transportation routes, reducing transport distances, costs, and carbon emissions.

The concept combines the Black Hole, symbolizing attraction and transformation, with Mycorrhizal Fungal Networks, symbolizing decomposition, connection, and redistribution. These ideas are expressed through a central circular “Nucleus” surrounded by dynamic organic paths.

The project integrates automated sorting, material recovery, organic treatment, anaerobic digestion, energy generation, and photovoltaic systems. Educational and public facilities promote environmental awareness and a circular economy.
