About the project
The city of Durrës has different historical periods and this fact made it offer different cultures seeking evidence in architectural terms. One of its manifestations is the complexity of the hotel Vollga. Despite the fact that its position is downtown and near archeological ruins, it appears now in desolate service and as a dysfunctional building. This project aims to turn hotel Vollga into a city library, as the actual library does not offer services to the growing population of Durrës. What is worth emphasizing is the fact that this building will not undergo the total transformation, but it will make an interplay between the traditional and the modern part. So, the existing building will continue to exist in the same structure but a new proposal will be added to the structure that will make the consistency in the realization of a modern «layer».
