The Tosno Sketch

The “Tosnensky Etude” project is a new point of attraction on the representative entrance area to Nikolskoye, a town often called “the gateway to the Leningrad Region.”

We propose a modern inclusive space that will transform an abandoned vacant lot into a multifunctional recreation area and become a new destination for both residents and visitors.

The project’s uniqueness lies in several key features:

  • A 17-metre height difference made it possible to create amphitheatres, terraced platforms, as well as children’s and sports areas integrated into the terrain.

  • Unique panoramic views of the Tosna River, which inspired Russian artists of the 18th and 19th centuries.

  • Full accessibility for people with limited mobility: gentle ramps with decorative lighting that imitates the course of the river, creating a new landmark for the town.

  • The project reflects the town’s identity by revealing its history through paving patterns and small architectural forms.

The central element of the project is the “Nikolskaya Palette” art object: a light installation dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Leningrad Region.
