Project
Through the Eye of a Needle — cubic deck arch
Category
Best Art in Outdoor Public Space
About the project
The cubic arch of corrugated steel sheets was installed at the premises of the Shalash (Eng. hut) museum — this was where Vladimir Lenin had been hiding at the bank of the Razliv Lake in Sestroretsk. Besides the museum, the memorial, and the straw hut model the memorial comprises the field and the forest, crossed by a straight road toward the pier.
The real hut was built of straw and only lasted for a couple of months, and this was why galvanized deck was used in this project. Quick assembly and timeliness of the cubic arch refer to the vernacular architectural tradition. Having walked through the arch or by it, the visitors can cast a glance at the infinite waters of the lake with no borders at all.
