About the project
For the stage directors, the Central Hotel is a metaphor of genetic and cultural memories. The building standing on the crossroads of Sibirskaya and Sovetskaya Streets is a place where fates of many people meet. During the Great Patriotic War, this 7-storey building became home for many Soviet intelligentsia representatives. This was where Aram Khachaturyan wrote his famous ‘Dance with Swords,’ Veniamin Kaverin – his ‘Two Captains,’ and Sergey Prokofiyev – his music for the Cinderella Ballet. Oil riggers from Baku, engineers from Moscow, and ballet celebrities from Leningrad were evacuated to live here.
