Project
Revitalization of the Former Medical Building on the Grounds of Uspenskoe Castle
Category
Best Project of Public Building or Facility
About the project (provided by the applicant)
The grounds of Uspenskoe Castle are located on land of historical and cultural significance. The project is based on the principle of “vitalization,” treating the site as a living organism. Thus, the organism has a “heart” — the castle itself — and will have a “head” — the existing former medical building, which is set to become an innovative educational cluster.
The architecture of the typical Soviet-era medical building contrasts starkly with the Neo-Gothic castle and the surrounding natural reserve. Therefore, the project follows the principle of preserving the building rather than demolishing it, adapting the interior spaces to meet contemporary needs while integrating the exterior into the green framework of the estate.
A lightweight metal structure is installed around the building's perimeter, functioning year-round to support multi-level open gardens and leisure platforms. Pavilions on the roof unlock the potential of the existing structure, offering new spaces for various functions.
