The project was carried out as a student diploma work. The main task was to find an optimal approach to the preservation and adaptive reuse of the regional cultural heritage site “Lutheran Parish Church, 19th century,” as well as pathways for the development of the settlement of Ust-Zolikha that engage with the historical roots of the territory.
The concept includes the creation of the cultural-landscape park Messer, whose name refers to the earlier designation of this originally German settlement. The Church of St. Anthony becomes an event venue for public and cultural activities. Opposite it, a new building is constructed — a lecture hall inspired by the forms of an amphitheatre, with a panoramic opening towards the ruin and a usable roof.
The surviving historic buildings (the village school, residential house and pastorate) receive new functional programmes — a national crafts workshop, an exhibition space of everyday life and a refectory, respectively. The territory is divided into four semantic zones: “Create,” “Be Inspired,” “See,” and “Rest.”
