About the project (provided by the applicant) This is a 1,500 sq.m two-story custom residence. The house’s distinctive character comes from its minimalist façades in a black-and-white palette (hence the name “Betula,” the Latin name for birch) and a glazed core with an internal patio. The patio serves as the conceptual center of the house, visually dividing its volume into two parts and creating a through-perspective from the main entrance to the garden.
The rotation of axes relative to each other gives the project a sense of openness, visually extending the internal façade into the garden. The windows and glazed walls are varied in form and construction: molded glass windows, panoramic windows and sliding doors, glass blocks, projecting windows, and skylights—all shaping the exterior, which subtly evokes the image of an ocean liner.
