A cultural and memorial center in Puerto Escondido, Mexico, is nominated for the Golden Trezzini Award as “Best Project of Public Building or Facility”.
Puerto Escondido in Mexico is known worldwide because of its legendary Zicatela beach with surf-friendly waves. Inca Hernandez Arquitectura studio designed a project of a cultural and memorial center to be located here.
The project arises from the need to create a space dedicated to the cultural promotion of the area. It proposes the creation of large-scale educational and cultural spaces to promote the regional heritage. The building is planned as an educational and sociocultural space within a linear park, constituting a Master Plan on the coast. The volume integrates with the regional vegetation through internal gardens that work also as galleries, at the same time a platform is created where cultural and educational activities converge with a view to the ocean. The structure is designed elevated from the ground simulating a mangrove swamp, allowing adaptability with the ocean swell phenomenon. The facade of the building with wooden lattices, allows passing of the sea breeze. This connection with the surroundings is also transmitted on the roof which simulates the waves of the ocean and functions as a skatepark.

The Golden Trezzini website users are welcome to vote for their preferred projects via Facebook, giving them a chance to win Premio del Pubblico Award. 120+ projects from Argentina, Australia, Belarus, Brazil, Egypt, France, Japan, Iran, Italy, Latvia, Mexico, Norway, Oman, Portugal, Russia, Serbia, Spain, the UAE, and the USA are approved for participation at the moment.
The International Golden Trezzini Awards for Architecture and Design are named after Domenico Trezzini (1670—1734), the first architect of St. Petersburg and the founder of Petrine Baroque. The Awards have been held since 2018. The motto of the Awards is “Architecture as Art.” The Awards are intended to acknowledge and promote architectural and designer projects that amount to works of art.
The Honorary Chairman of the International Council of the Awards is Mikhail Piotrovsky, General Director of the State Hermitage, St. Petersburg.
Entries for the Third International Golden Trezzini Awards for Architecture and Design can be submitted at www.goldtrezzini.ru/en/ till October 15, 2020. Participation is free of charge.
