St. Petersburg will become the capital of the international architectural awards

Russia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in St. Petersburg supported the awards named after Domenico Trezzini, the first architect of the city on the Neva. From 2020, the Golden Trezzini Awards will be granted international status.

The 2^nd Golden Trezzini Awards for Architecture and Design is arranged with the support of the Mission of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the Russian Federation in St. Petersburg.

The Mission of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in St. Petersburg implements the state policy in the field of international relations of the Russian Federation in the north-western part of Russia. In particular, the tasks implemented by the mission include assistance to local government bodies, public entities and other non-governmental agencies that communicate internationally. Thus, there is no surprise that executives decided to support the Awards with the official objective of establishing a new international expert community, bringing together professionals in the fields of architecture, design, restoration, and museum business, as well as business, mass media, public authorities, the academic community representatives, and people of art.

“As the Awards keeps extending in terms of geography, we have all the grounds to grant it the international status,” says Vladimir Zapevalov, representative of Russia’s Ministry for Foreign Affairs in St. Petersburg.

“In 2019, the Awards has become global: its Jury includes members from Italy, the USA, and Switzerland, and one of the nominations is open for foreign participants,” says Pavel Chernyakov, Chairman of the Arrangements Committee. “As the international architectural community is partially interested in the Golden Trezzini concept, we can extend the Awards geography beyond the Russian boundaries. It is especially symbolic that we are going to open doors for the Golden Trezzini nominees in the year of 2020, celebrating the 350^th Anniversary of the birth of Domenico Trezzini, the European who became the first architect of the Petrine capital of the Russian Empire.”

Having been taking place since 2018, the Golden Trezzini Awards intends to discover architectural, designer and restoration projects that in terms of artistic value can be regarded as works of art. This year, 350 projects from over 50 cities and regions of Russia, Belorussia, Abkhazia, Great Britain, Latvia, UAE, Finland, and South Korea are taking part in the event. The independent auditor of the Awards is Borenius Attorneys Russia Ltd.

The Awardees of the Golden Trezzini 2019 will be rewarded on November 27 in the Atrium of the Peter and Paul Fortress. The best projects will be added to the collection of the State Museum of St. Petersburg History, the general partner of the awards.
