About the project
The building of the today’s Art Museum in Nizhny Novgorod was designed by Joseph Charleman in the mid-19th century, featuring late classicism style. Before reconstruction, there were lots of administrative offices here, but now it is the most modern venue for top-level exhibitions.
Besides facade renovation, the project provided for total modernization of the museum internal premises. Its depository was renovated, its stucco and parquet flooring were restored, and partitions added in Soviet times were removed. Fragments of original ceilings and doorways discovered during the works were preserved to become a converging point between the past and the future of this unique building.
