Project Orthodox Church Complex of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker of Myra
Best Project of Building or Facility by Student
About the project (provided by the applicant) The church complex on the territory of the Admiralty Shipyards is conceived as a modern sacred space combining spiritual, educational, and public functions. The central element is a church for 600 parishioners, whose expressive silhouette with light, almost transparent domes and monumental arched entrances emphasizes aspiration toward light.
A circular gallery connects the baptismal chapel, a public assembly building with multifunctional halls, a parish school, and the diocesan administrative block, forming a unified ensemble. The architectural concept is based on the idea of all-encompassing light: transparent facades, wide glazed openings, and soft vaults create a sense of openness and spiritual enlightenment.
The layout of the complex is designed so that visitors experience harmony between interior and exterior, sacred and earthly, while the strict modern form highlights the connection with Saint Petersburg’s historical context and tradition of monumental architecture.
