Project Restoration of the Towers of the Pskovo-Pechersky Monastery
Best Implemented Restoration Project
About the project (provided by the applicant) The towers of the Pskovo-Pechersky Monastery are unique stone cultural heritage sites of federal significance, originally built as defensive structures in the 1660s. Each tower had thick walls and embrasures to withstand attacks by Swedish forces.
ASM Group developed and restored three towers within the monastery: the Tower of the Holy Gates, the main ceremonial entrance; the Upper Grille Tower; and the Lower Grille Tower. One of ASM Group’s unique discoveries was the uncovering of historical drawings on window slopes, embrasures, and walls in the Upper Grille Tower, created by Peter the Great-era soldiers depicting military themes.
During the comprehensive restoration, all historical structures and details of the towers were preserved, while multiple Soviet-era elements were dismantled and replaced. The Tower of the Holy Gates will soon house the Archimandrite Alipiy Museum, and the Upper Grille Tower will begin hosting tours and exhibitions on the history of the monastery.
