2019 Golden Trezzini winner in the category “Best Implemented Restoration / Reconstruction Project” participates in the competition with a new project.
Restoration of the rooms of Nicholas I in Gatchina Palace near St. Petersburg, finished in 2020, competes for the Golden Trezzini Award this year in the category «Best Implemented Restoration / Reconstruction Project».
The rooms of Nicholas I in Gatchina Palace were designed by R. I. Kuzmin in 1850-52 as the emperor’s workspace. These include the Entrance Hall, the Corner Office, the Valet Room, the Waiting Room, the Large Military Office, and other office premises. The furniture and decoration of the rooms were evacuated in 1941, but the building suffered from a fire in 1944, as well as during reconstruction of the palace in the Soviet times.
Apart from the restored rooms, the exposition opened in 2020 includes original and reproduction furnishings, which saw the last days Nicholas I spent at the palace. The authors intended to recreate the mid-19th century atmosphere as if the rooms’ owner has just left.
In 2019, restoration and conservation of Chesme Gallery in Gatchina Palace won the Golden Trezzini in the category “Best Implemented Restoration / Reconstruction Project”.
